Willemien Terpstra new CEO of Gasunie

14-07-2023 Willemien Terpstra has been appointed as the new CEO of Dutch Gasunie. She has been nominated by the Supervisory Board and appointed by the Minister of Finance, following a positive recommendation from the Works Council.

Willemien Terpstra started her career at Arco Chemical (a predecessor of LyondellBasell) and held various management positions at various business units within the group. She is currently Global Vice President Decarbonization at the international chemical group LyondellBasell, where she is responsible for CO2 reduction in the group's global operations. She was appointed effective March 1, 2024, for a four-year term.

Terpstra succeeds Han Fennema, who earlier this year announced his intention to step down as CEO after nearly a decade. He will step down as of November 1, 2023; until Terpstra takes office, CFO Janneke Hermes will assume the chairmanship.

Pieter Duisenberg, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: "We are extremely pleased with the arrival of Willemien Terpstra. She has great ambition to further shape the social task of energy transition. With her knowledge, experience and capabilities she is ideally suited to lead Gasunie's strategic development and the realization of our future agenda in hydrogen, heat, CO2 and (green) gas. The Supervisory Board sees in her an inspired successor to Han Fennema, to whom we are greatly indebted. Under his expert, passionate and down-to-earth leadership, Gasunie has developed from a gas transport company into a sustainable energy infrastructure company. In doing so, Han has laid a strong foundation for a new chapter in Gasunie's history."

Willemien Terpstra, incoming CEO of Gasunie: "I am enormously motivated to continue building, together with all Gasunie employees, the energy system of the future, in which we must balance sustainability, reliability and security of supply. Gasunie plays a crucial role in the energy sector and has an ambitious vision for the future of energy supply in the Netherlands and the countries around us. I look forward to making my contribution to the realization of that future vision over the next few years and to being important with Gasunie in making our society more sustainable."
