Hilde Garssen leaves KPN for CHRO role at ING

15-06-2026 ING appoints Hilde Garssen as Chief Human Resources Officer effective 1 September 2026. She will leave KPN to take on the new role.

Hilde Garssen will be appointed CHRO of ING Group effective September 1, 2026. She succeeds Ruth McGill, who left ING in November 2025. Isaac Vitini has been serving as interim CHRO since then. The ECB has approved the appointment. With Garssen’s appointment, the CHRO will also become a member of the Banking Management Board.

ING CEO Steven van Rijswijk said: "I am pleased that Hilde will join ING. Her broad experience in people leadership, transformation and organisational development will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our culture and deliver on our strategy. Elevating the CHRO role to the Management Board reflects our conviction that people and culture are central to sustainable growth, strong performance and long-term value creation."

Garssen has more than 25 years of experience in the banking and telecommunications sectors. At KPN she has been chief people officer since December 2018 and a member of the Board of Management since December 2019. Before joining KPN, she spent nineteen years at ABN AMRO in senior HR and transformation roles.

Gerard van de Aast, Chair of the Supervisory Board of KPN, said: "Hilde has played an important role in the transformation of KPN. She has contributed to building a strong culture, modernised our employee value proposition and strengthened engagement and leadership within the company."
