George Roberts werd in 1969 partner van de corporate finance afdeling bij Bear, Stearns & Co. Hier is hij werkzaam tot hij in 1975 samen met vrienden de investeringsmaatschappij Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co opricht. Sindsdien is hij werkzaam als co-CEO en co-chairman bij KKR. Roberts heeft in 1997 de onderneming REDF opgericht. Hier is hij nu nog actief als chairman.
